My gorgeous friend Rebecca celebrated her Birthday last weekend and I was lucky enough to be asked to do her makeup. We spent the weekend in Newcastle with our other besto Katie, so of course we had to have a FEW nights out! I created two different looks for Rebecca over the weekend. The first was a dark smokey eye for her actual Birthday night out and the other was a more neutral laid back look.
This is Rebecca with no makeup on. She never usually wears a lot of makeup but she wanted to go WILD for her Birthday. I would describe Rebecca's eyeshape as a monolid. A monolid is flat on the surface and doesn't have much of a crease, if any. With this eye shape it is often hard to distinguish the crease for applying eyeshadow, therefore you have to basically draw in the crease being careful not to bring it too high to the brow bone and eliminate any definition.
Due to this being a dark look I knew there would be some fall down so I started on the eyes as opposed to the face. As always I used a primer on the eyes. I used this gorgeous charcoal colour and applied it firstly to the lash line. Because Rebecca has a monolid eye shape I also put a small mark where I wanted Rebecca's crease to be prominent. I then went back to the lash line and blended it upwards. You need to have patience with a smokey eye because of the amount of applying and blending but especially when working with a monolid as you do not want to blend the colour too high. So it's literally ''apply and blend, apply and blend'' until you are happy with the smoothness of the shadow. I love a smooth smokey eye and I find that using a small amount of bronzer on the crease really helps to blend the crease and warms the eye up too. I applied black liquid eyeliner and falsies to Rebecca's eyes. I applied a bronzey-gold colour lightly to the bottom lash line. I used an icey gold colour on the inner corner of the eye just to open up the eye some more. I used a dark brown eyebrow powder through Rebecca's eyebrows, following the natural shape.
Rebecca gets some redness on her face, mostly on her her cheeks so to counteract this I used a CC cream from Sleek to correct her skin tone. This is a pretty thick CC cream and a little goes a long way. I then applied Rebecca's Catrice foundation on top. I used a slightly lighter concealer than Rebecca's natural skin tone under her eyes. I lightly contoured the face just to warm up the complexion and to even out the face as the eyes are very bold. I set the foundation with transluscent powder. I then highlighted the tops of the cheekbones, under the browbone, down the bridge of the nose and on the cupids bow. I added a nude lipgloss to complete the look.
This is the Rebecca's neutral look. I used the same technique as before with this eye makeup look. Marking out the crease and starting at the lash line and blending upwards. I used this orangey-gold colour as Rebecca has green eyes and this colour really makes her eyes pop. I put a slightly darker colour in the crease for some dimension. I also used the darker colour on the lower lash line. I used black liquid eyeliner and falsies again and lightly went through Rebecca's eyebrows with the brow powder.
This is the full face of makeup, all the same steps as before except I went slightly heavier with contouring the face. This look would be just as gorgeous without the lashes but as we were going out and it was Bex's Birthday weekend, we thought, sure why not?
So that concludes this blog post for monolid eyes. I want to thank my lovely friend Rebecca for letting me attack her face and I dedicate this blog to her. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOVE!!
